Going out of my comfort zone...to the farm!

So, for our family vacation this year we had a "farm vacation." That's right -- we paid money to live on a farm. Now, this wasn't an ordinary farm -- it was a working organic farm in an absolutely beautiful location with wonderful accommodations! We had our own three bedroom living space complete with a full kitchen and laundry machines. Coming home with clean laundry was really nice!

Our mornings consisted of feeding the animals and assisting with harvesting of some vegetables. The kids were able to play with the bunnies and gather eggs from the chicken coop! My favorite activity was picking corn! It did rain some of the time so we took our own little day trips. We went to an amusement park, saw some of the Little League World Series, and visited with my grandma.

The most exciting part for me was walking downstairs from our "house" and asking the farmer for cucumbers, peppers, onions, etc. for dinner that night and having him just go pick them off the plant! Plus they were organic!!! Heaven on earth! Oh, did I mention that the farmers made home made meals as well? Absolutely delicious!

Jeff and I slept very soundly (we both agree it was the best sleep we've had in months!) and awoke every morning (bright and early) to the sound of the rooster. Too funny! At night there would be squabbles in the hen house -- they must have changed their pecking order 10 times one night!

This vacation was one of our favorites by far...relaxation, fun for the little ones (including Colin!), just getting away from it all -- memories to last a lifetime!

  1. That is the coolest vacation! you will have to share (email if you like) where that is!

Sorry for the delay, here's the link to the closest thing to what I did for the mini lasagnas. Mine were meatless, so much simpler and I used a mini-muffin tin so they were even smaller than a standard muffin size. http://www.kevinandamanda.com/recipes/dinner/mini-lasagna-cups.html
