You are what you listen to...

So, I was thinking the other day that a person's "mixed tape" can provide a lot of insight their life. OK - so I've been watching a little too much of "Eat Pray Love", but whatever! So, I recently "burned" a mixed CD that I have in my car at all times. Here are the songs and a little reasoning behind each...maybe you'll learn something new about us (yes, the whole family) by reading this!

Track 1 - You Are My Sunshine by Anne Murray - this song is on a picture slide show Jeff and I made of the kids last year. Every time I hear this song (also was on a tape of mine when I was Cecelia's age) I think of my Cecelia. Her baby pictures play during this song.

Track 2 - American Baby by Dave Matthews Band - what can I say? Jeff and I have always loved Dave Matthews Band. We've been to at least five concerts (one in the pouring rain) during our college years. By the way -- did anyone see Steve Tyler from Aerosmith rock the Kennedy Center Honors the other night??! Aerosmith would also fall into this "five concert" category.

Track 3 - Memories by Elvis Presley - this was played at my grandma's 90th birthday party four years ago during a slide show of pictures from her life. It just makes me feel good inside to hear this song.

Track 4 - Seven Days a Week by The Imagination Movers - hands down the kids' favorite show! Jeff and I can even be caught singing some of their catchy toons!

Track 5 - Henehene Kou 'Aka by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole - this was played during Jeff's and my helicopter ride during our honeymoon in Maui. Hands down one of our favorite memories.

Track 6 - Living in a Sovereign Land by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole - same as the last one :) Can't get enough of remembering Maui!

Track 7 - Mrs. Darcy by Jean-Yves Thibaudet - a beautiful piano piece that I love from the movie Pride and Prejudice. I actually own the piano music and attempt to play it myself!

Track 8 - Save Room for my Love by John Legend -- I simply just like this song and it never played on the radio enough so I decided to buy it from Amazon so I could hear it when I wanted!

Track 9 - Suddenly I See by KT Tunstall -- this was in the movie The Devil Wears Prada and it just is a fun song that somewhat makes me feel empowered. It does have a curse word in it so I really only listen to this when the kids are not in the car :)

Track 10 - Daughter by Loudon Wainwright III -- this is from the movie Knocked Up! Jeff and I love this movie and especially the compilation at the end of the movie where this song plays. Yes, the movie is a bit "raunchy" but we laugh every time we see it!

The next few are popular ones now that I just like :)

Track 11 - Misery by Maroon 5

Track 12 - Say Hey by Michael Franti

Track 13 - Human Nature by Michael Jackson -- so, I'm not sure if you know but Jeff and I are pretty big fans of American Idol. A couple seasons ago the cast did a night of Michael Jackson and Matt Giraud (one of my favorites of that season) rocked this one out! Yes I had the Thriller tape when I was young, but I had forgotten how much I liked this song! Note -- Jeff and I never vote on Idol (I only voted one for Clay Aiken! haha) but we just like to watch :)

Track 14 - Color Song by Parachute Express -- one of the girls' favorite songs. We heard it on the FIOS music channel for toddlers one day and just started dancing. Such such a fun song!

Track 15 - Father and Daughter by Paul Simon -- my sister-in-law Kristina danced to this song with her dad at her wedding. It's such a great song and Paul Simon is such a great singer! I remember listening to some of his songs with my brother and my Dad one time and just have good memories when I hear his voice.

Track 16 - Love Song by Taylor Swift -- this one is for Cecelia. She LOVES this song...and knows most of the words too!

Track 17 - September by Earth Wind and Fire -- such a catchy toon! Oh, and I must admit I heard this on American Idol too!

Track 18 - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough by The Jacksons - What can I say? Heard in 27 Dresses - classic Chic Flick! Makes you want to get up and dance! Oh, and Jeff and I heard this while playing pool in Sub I during college -- good memories :)

Track 19 - Hey, Soul Sister by Train -- the two girls are my little soul sisters that love this song!
