Our first pilgrimage!
Cecelia and I hitched a ride with our neighbors and participated in our first Diocesan pilgrimage to the National Shrine. This is Cecelia right outside the Shrine. We have never been there before and it was just breathtaking! What a beautiful church! As I understand it it's one of the largest Catholic churches in the country! The inside was gorgeous with paintings on the ceiling and massive columns. The entire church was full and buses from churches in the diocese filled the parking lot.
We first said the rosary as part of the Global Living Rosary. Each Hail Mary, Our Father, etc. was said by a different person and most of the time in a different language! We then had lunch over at Catholic University in their cafeteria (totally felt like a college student again!). They just so happened to have a student life event going on with moon bounces, face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, etc. so Cecelia and our neighbors (who are around her age) burned off some energy! My neighbor chimed in with, "God will provide!" Not sure if this is what He meant, but hey -- it helped the kids get through Mass with the Bishop!
Here is a picture (from the back) of the Mass.
What a wonderful day of fellowship with well over 1000 Catholics!
