So...Jeff and I are contemplating our next big purchase...a cow! No, not a live one, but actually purchasing a whole bunch of a beef from a local farm. In the past few months we have switched to organic food in our house -- milk, fruit, vegetables, and meat. Certified Organic meat comes from animals that are born and raised on organic farms, grass fed, no hormones, etc. Just good old fashioned meat. Organic meat is expensive, and a good way to bring it back down to reality is to purchase it in bulk. A good amount of people do this, believe it or not. You purchase a live animal from a local farm and then another business processes the beef, packages and prepares it for your freezer at home. So, we'd have to buy a freezer too. The cost difference (after everything) is pretty amazing -- a little under $5/lb -- for organic beef that's a good deal!
The next available date to get this huge amount of beef (I hate saying "get the cow") is in March -- so we have some time. I'll keep you posted!
