Wow! What a spud!

Yesterday we headed out bright and early (in the car by 8am on a Saturday!) to the farm to harvest some potatoes. We met my parents out there (their first trip to the farm) as my mom has been staying since June that she could not wait to harvest potatoes! Little did she know that it would involve getting up at 7:30am on a Saturday morning after a long week at work! But, the weather was beautiful so it made up for it!

The morning started out with a nice pancake breakfast and then we boarded the wagons to dig in the dirt and find the "hidden" potatoes! Luckily they had a tractor "digging" for us so it made it easier -- I think we "harvested" over 6 lbs of potatoes! Most of those came from my Dad, Jeff and Cecelia "stalking" the tractor right at the end! :) According to the farmer, potatoes that you purchase in the store were actually harvested last year! So, apparently these shoud be some yummy and fresh pototoes! And they will last for months (we hope!) in our basement! That is unless we eat them all! If you are into organic food, organic potatoes are expensive at the grocery store -- so this is defintley the way to go in order to save some money (and have some fun!).

Here are some pictures from the morning!

And the morning (well, it was 11:45!) ended with a nice home made ice cream treat!
